Jose Panfilo Castillo

Jose Panfilo Castillo, age 80, was called to heaven on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

He was the son of Lorenza Barron and Rosalio Castillo. Born in El Rincon del Refugio, S.L.P., Villa Hidalgo, MX. He moved to Laredo at the young age of 18 and became a lifelong citizen of Laredo, Texas.

He is survived by Maria Reyes Castillo, his wife of 57 years and their children: Maria Sonia, Ernesto, Andres, Miguel Angel (Alma), Olga (Michael), Yiniba (Thomas), Javier, Juliana (John), Leticia (Andrew) and Osiris (Luis); siblings: Antonio, Juan, Micaela, Agapito, Juana, Esther & Geronima. Also, survived by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren in Texas and Florida. He was a kind, caring, and devoted father. He had an enthusiastic interest for the intellect, science, philosophy and was an adventurer of life.

A private visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Gamez and Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Services where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A private funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020, from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Funeral home opens at 8:00 a.m. and a procession departs at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In accordance with city ordinance, the number of visitors will be limited to 50 percent occupancy capacity. Please feel free to wait in your vehicle for a turn if funeral home reaches capacity. All visitors must wear a face mask before entering the building and use hand sanitizer provided upon entry. Visitors must provide their own face covering.  Anyone that is knowingly sick or has upper respiratory illness is asked to stay home and may be denied entry.
