Maria Epigmenia Gonzalez Velasquez

Maria Epigmenia Gonzalez Velásquez, beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, passed from this life on September 6, 2019, at age 78.

She entered this world on March 24, 1941, in Laredo, TX, born to Eulogio (Sr.) and Ruperta (Constante) Gonzalez. Growing up, Mary was known to most as “Epi.” She often told stories about her neighborhood friends, siblings and their adventures at Raymond & Tirza Martin High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Jesús Francisco Velásquez, Sr, and her life changed forever. Known to her as “mi viejito,” they spent 52+ years together. They traveled to 40 out of the 50 United States, where she made countless memories and acquaintances. Mary also spent decades serving our Lord at San Luis Rey Catholic Church, from young adulthood until she eventually retired as a catechist.

Mary was most passionate about her children, their undertakings and her grandchildren: Jesús Francisco (Jr.) and son Jesús Francisco (III); Marisela (Georg) and children Vera Isabella, Georg Francisco, Friedrich Antonio and Sofie Alessandra “LuLu” Kamm; Grizelda (Fernando) and son Fernando Jesús Cuellar III; Rosa Isela (Isauro) and children Isauro Hector (III), Kassandra Isela and Roberto Gabriel Barrera; Esmeralda (Ramón) and children Nicholas Henry, Julian Luciano and Lucas Adrian Perales; Gerardo Norberto (Mildred) and his children Gerardo Norberto Gonzalez, Samantha Nicole, Roxcella and Kayla Janel Velasquez; Fernando and his daughters Kristina Denise and Alicia Alexis Velasquez.

She gave her children love and lasting impressions and her grandchildren pure eternal love. Mary is also survived by her brother Jose Crecencio Gonzalez, Sr., nieces and nephews. Those who knew her well, knew her as an avid floral creationist. She contributed to numerous quinceañeras, weddings, baby showers and other special occasions.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Gamez & Sons Funeral and Creation Services, 1029 Bob Bullock Loop, Laredo, TX 78043, where visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at San Luis Rey Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. A procession departs the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Please join us in prayer as she joins Him in His Kingdom.
