Maria Margarita Meza, 74, whom was very much loved and admired by her entire family and friends passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Luis Meza; father, Manuel Paiz.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Luis Aldo (Rosalinda) Meza, Marla (Adrian) Ramos, Luis Enrique Meza; 11 grandchildren; mother, Araminta Paiz; siblings, Rowena Lopez, Marcos (Teresa) Paiz, Yolanda (David) Hogan, numerous other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Meza put up a good fight against pancreatic cancer and kept her fighting gloves on for a little over a year. Margarita was jovial, quick-witted, good hearted, and committed to always finding the joy in life. Margie was committed to her family, her culture, and her love for books. She was an educator as well as a school librarian for many years and gifted her children, grandchildren, and students with the knowledge they needed and the books she knew they would love. She also wrote and won two grants from the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. The funds were used to increase the book collection in her library for UISD. Thus, increasing opportunities for literacy awareness in the Rio Bravo area. She was the matriarch, and even though she was firm at times, always used her teacher voice when necessary. Margarita was also compassionate, supportive, and recognized every family members’ uniqueness and embraced it. She loved unconditionally and we will now carry that love with us forever in our hearts.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gamez and Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Services where a rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Cremation will be held at a later date.

In accordance with city ordinance, the number of visitors will be limited to 50 percent occupancy capacity. Please feel free to wait in your vehicle for a turn if funeral home reaches capacity. All visitors must wear a face mask before entering the building and use hand sanitizer provided upon entry. Visitors must provide their own face covering. Anyone that is knowingly sick or has upper respiratory illness is asked to stay home and may be denied entry.
