Dr. Marshall Mandell, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by his wife, family, and friends in Laredo, Texas. Marshall was born February 4, 1922, in Manhattan, New York.
DR. MARSHALL MANDELL, pediatrician, allergist, consultant, and pioneer in clinical ecology; son of Albert and Beatrice (Roth) Mandell; Dr. Mandell was a guest lecturer in Philadelphia for Dr. Glenn Doman’s Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential, in addition he was recognized on the Marquis Who’sWho as an industry leader for 2017 and was nominated as an international health professional of the year for 2006. Dr. Mandell achieved a BA in zoology, University of Connecticut, 1943; MD, Long Island College of Medicine, 1946. Diplomate American Board in Pediatrics, Pediatric Allergy, American Board of Allergy and Immunology, American Board of Environmental Medicine. Internship in pediatrics, Yale University Medical School in New Haven Hospital, 1946-47; jr. resident in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Washington University Medical School, 1949-1950; resident in pediatrics General Hospital #1 and #2, Kansas City, Missouri, 1950-51; Instructor in clinical Assistant in New York Medical College,1955-58, assistant professor in allergy 1958/80. Adjunct professor in Nutrition and Allergy at University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, 1976-90; consultant in allergy and bio-ecologic disorders in mental illness Fuller Memorial Sanitarium, South Attleboro, Massachusetts 1972-76; consultant in cerebral allergy, Central Neurology Rehabilitation, Morton, Pa., 1980-; guest lecturer at Antwerp University of Belgium, 1998, European Congress Allergology, Stockholm, 1968, First World Congress Biologic Psychiatry, Buenos Aires, 1971, National Multiple Sclerosis Society Tri-state Meeting, N.Y.C., 1987. Fellow: International Academy of Nutrition and Preventive Medicine, Academy of Orthomolecular Medicine and Psychiatry Commendation for contributions to investigation on mental illness, American Academy Environment of Medicine (Jonathan Forman Gold medal), American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; member of American Academy of Allergy, President of Norwalk Lions Club 1956-58, Phi Sigma Delta (president 1941-43). Avocations: medical writing, woodcarving, gardening, and swimming.
He is survived by his former wife Thelma Eisenberg; children: Joan Arlene, Dr. Steven Marshall, and Nori Lyn; beloved wife of 17 years, Blanca Aurora Abrego Mandell; nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Laredo City Cemetery on Friday, August 24, 2018. Full military honors will be provided by Fort Sam Houston Honor Guard and Laredo Veteran’s Honor Guard.
