Martha Hilda Prado-Ayala, 65, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 1, 2021. She was born and raised in Laredo, TX, having recently resided in San Antonio, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Arcelia Prado, and her grandson-in-law, Jonathan Chavez.
Martha was a dedicated 30+ year employee of Doctor’s Hospital of Laredo during which she cultivated many meaningful friendships and accomplished professional goals. She was better known for her very generous spirit, helpful nature and strength of character. Martha’s laugh was contagious, her smile was bright and her will to “fight the good fight” is forever etched in our memories.
Martha is survived by her husband of 34 years, Arthur Anthony Ayala, her three children: Raul Barrera, Jr., Marcos Barrera and Martha Gabriela (John) Barrera. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Anna Gabriela Barrera, Marcos Barrera, Jr., Sofia Isabella Barrera, Isabella Rosanna Barrera, and Harmony Faith Barrera. Martha was also a great-grandmother to her beloved Alina Gabriela Chavez, affectionately known to her family as “Bee-Bees.” At the time of her passing, Martha was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her second great-grandchild, a baby girl to be named Jonah Teylor Chavez.
Her love for her family was absolute; as a wife, she kept her husband on his toes and laughing with quick wit and unbeatable tenacity. As a mother, she was sure to pass on her intelligence, strength and courage to each of her children. Her role as a grandmother allowed her to spoil and love her grandchildren whenever possible. Being a great grandmother was an honor for her, and she was great. Martha looked forward to regular calls from her favorite nephew O.J., and was always ready to guide and advise her loved ones during their time of need. She missed her Tia Lupe & Tio Sergio, and often spoke of her parents and her love for them.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Gamez and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services.
A cremation will be held at a later date.
Our family would like to thank Martha’s medical team: Dr. Raul Gaona, Dr. Carl Dukes, Dr. Jaime Mayoral, Dr. Daniel Tamez and Dr. Hector Villasenor along with all staff at Methodist Hospital of San Antonio for their excellent care and service to her.
Martha’s last act of generosity was the gift of sight to another patient in need. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Martha’s name to the cancer research or renal disease research foundations of your choice or an animal protective organization.
